María del Carmen Martínez Sancho: Mathematician

María del Carmen Martínez Sancho: first woman in the country to achieve a PhD in Mathematics and a high school chair in the same discipline. (Toledo, July 8, 1901 - Malaga, October 15, 1995)

She was the first doctor and maths teacher in secondary education in Spain. In addition, she was in the Institute-School of Madrid and Seville. At the same time, she was the first woman to be pensioned by the Board of Extension of Studies at the University of Berlin where she studied "multidimensional geometry" with great scholars, such as professors Friedrich Schur, Ludwig Bieberbach or Adolf Hammerstein.

Her career was one of the most outstanding names in Spanish Mathematics at the beginning of the 20th century, because she was one of the twelve members that Spanish Mathematical Society added from its foundation, in 1911 until the end of the Civil War, in 1936
